The Social Studies Department at Spring Forest Middle School is dedicated to educating our students so that they will become responsible, participating members of local, state, national and global communities. Through our student-centered curriculum, students become critical thinkers and effective communicators.
The Social Studies curriculum is taught in grades 6, 7 and 8.
The sixth grade course is World Cultures. Students study various regions of the world and explore the history, geography, government, economics, culture and technology of these regions.
Seventh grade Social Studies includes a comprehensive study of the history and geography of Texas from early times to the present. The content of the course shows the interaction of the forces of land, people, politics, economics and government that have shaped Texas.
Eighth graders study U.S. History from its earliest settlement to the period of reconstruction following the Civil War. Major units include Settlement and Colonization, Revolution, Constitution, The New Republic, Reform, Westward Expansion, Civil War and Reconstruction. The Social Studies TAKS Test is taken in the eighth grade in the spring.
